The TCP PUSH + ACK attack, like the TCP SYN attack, aims to deplete the resources of the victim system. When an attacker sends TCP messages with PSH and ACK flags set to 1 to the Target host, these messages will cause the Target system to clear all TCP buffers (whether the buffers are full or not) and respond with an acknowledgement message. If this process is performed by a large number of controlled hosts, the system will not be able to process normal data, resulting in denial of service.

This kind of attack was discovered as early as 1996, but it still shows great vitality. Many operating systems, even firewalls and routers, cannot effectively defend against this kind of attack, and it is very difficult to trace it because it can easily forge the source address. Its packet characteristics are usually that the source sends a large number of SYN packets and lacks the last handshake ACK reply of the three handshakes.
